The first officially photos of a ‘smart car’ are on the way.
The concept car, named Project T, is being developed by Google and it will have a battery that can provide up to 300km of range and has an autonomous driving mode that will be able to turn itself off in an emergency.
“Project T” is based on the idea that a car can be made to feel as if it has an onboard battery and the vehicle will be self-sufficient if you don’t want to drive it.
“There’s this great idea of having a car that feels like it’s not dependent on you,” says Google’s chief engineer, Dave Roberts.
“If you want to go for a coffee and you want your car to do all the driving, you just need to plug it in and let it do the driving.”
Project T will be powered by the Google Project T energy storage technology and it could be on the road as early as next year.
Google is currently developing a battery called Project Loon that is expected to be available later this year.
This battery, which has already been tested in test vehicles, will have about 20 times the energy capacity of the battery in the Project T concept car.
It is designed to be used in the car to recharge batteries and will have enough power to run all the electronics on it for about a year.
“I think the idea of self-driving vehicles is so exciting because we can make our cars feel more like machines, and we can actually create some kind of technology that’s going to feel like a real machine,” Roberts says.
“The idea of using batteries to help your car feel like it is a machine and you don.t have to think about that, is a really exciting idea.”
Project Loons battery technology is based around a combination of electric propulsion, wireless communications, and batteries that are used in conjunction with GPS.
The batteries will also help to keep the car connected to the internet and other connected devices.
The project has been a long time coming for Google, and Roberts says the team is “trying to get the technology right” but he believes the technology is in place.
“This technology is going to be a really great thing to have,” Roberts said.
“But I think the big thing is that the car is going have to be able, and the battery is going, to keep up with the speed of the internet.”
The Project T project has already received a green light from Google.
“It’s been a while since we’ve done anything with battery technology, so I think we’re on our way to having something ready for the public in the first quarter of 2020,” Roberts explained.
Google plans to test the Project Luns battery technology on public roads around the world.
The Project Loo project is based at Google’s campus in Mountain View, California.
Google has also announced plans to build an entire fleet of “smart” cars that will operate in urban areas.
The first vehicles, which are expected to cost about $US1.5 million each, will be capable of driving themselves in “safe” and “safer” modes, and will be equipped with sensors and radar systems.
Google says that the first vehicle in this project will be in service by 2020.
“By 2020, we’ll have about 15,000 of these vehicles in the public, so we’re already well into the next phase of the program,” Roberts explains.
Google expects to deliver a range of sensors and radars for Project T vehicles to be installed in the cars and a number of other vehicles will be built by 2020 that will also have Project T technology installed.
“You will see the first Project T cars in the US in 2021,” Roberts predicts.
“We’ll have a fleet of over 100 of these cars and then eventually a fleet that will cover Europe and the rest of the world.”
In the long term, Project T would also allow for vehicles to operate on their own without needing a human driver, or without needing to be tethered to a battery.
Google and its rivals are already working on self-drive cars, but Roberts says that “the car is really the driver” and that Project T is about “making it a really fun, rewarding experience”.
“It really is about creating an experience that is kind of like playing in a sandbox, but it’s all controlled by the driver,” Roberts argues.
“All of this technology is really important for this type of car, and I think it’s a really big part of the future of mobility, which is going places.”
Google is working with car manufacturers to develop their own self-driven cars, and Google has already unveiled Project T in its autonomous car fleet.
The Google Project Lool project is also being developed at Google and will use similar technology.
