The Associated Press is reporting that there is a “growing fear” that the United States is in the midst of a gay purge.
The AP reported that a man identified only as “S.H.” was arrested in Washington, D.C., on Wednesday and faces charges including “harassment, inciting hatred and engaging in acts of discrimination.”
The AP noted that the man was wearing a “GAY” shirt and was wearing what appeared to be a shirt that read, “Trump hates you,” as he was being arrested.
The FBI and the Secret Service were reportedly investigating the arrest, which the AP describes as a “hate crime.”
The man reportedly told the police that he was protesting Trump’s stance on the Confederate flag, which is flying at the White House and other public places.
The man, who reportedly attended the University of Virginia, reportedly told police he was “angry” at Trump’s statements, but didn’t elaborate on what exactly he was angry about.
“The man said he planned to walk out with a protest flag and signs that read ‘Hate trumps love,'” the AP reported.
