The Jerusalem Press Center on Sunday said that in 2017 Israel’s left-wing newspaper Ha’aretz published an article about the former US president Donald Trump and the Jerusalem Post, which published it in a different format.
The article said the United States was not a democratic country and that its founding documents were illegitimate, but it was clear that Trump and his team “have a very strong interest in it.”
The article was not clear what the United Kingdom’s Telegraph and Daily Telegraph would do in light of the article.
A spokesperson for Ha’ayet said the article had not been removed from its website, but that the article “has not been published, and we have not received any notification that the newspaper is no longer publishing.”
In 2017, Ha’et said it published an essay on the “Jewish question” from the Israeli academic and activist Rabbi Meir Kahane.
In the essay, Kahane said that the US was a country built on racism and colonialism, that Zionism was a racist ideology that created the modern Jewish state and that Israel’s founding document was illegitimate.
The Ha’alei Karta, the Jewish political party of the Zionist movement, called the article an anti-Semitic “pander” to the US, and said it had nothing to do with the newspaper.
“It is an article from the perspective of an academic whose career is focused on Israel and its policies, and the purpose of the publication is to promote this idea, to show it in the strongest possible light,” the group said in a statement.
“The Haaretz article on Trump was written for the purpose to promote a right-wing political agenda and was not intended to criticize any political party.”‘
We need to do better’A spokesperson said that Ha’eret, which is owned by the Knesset, “is committed to publishing all of Ha’avara’s news.”
In the article, Haaretz said that after Trump was elected, Haavara published a story on the former president’s visit to the city, which it said was “unexpected” by the press.
The piece, which Haaretz called “a clear example of how the American people are being manipulated by Trump,” said Trump’s visit was a “clear sign that he has lost any intention of making peace with the Palestinians,” Haaretz wrote.
In a tweet Sunday, HaJai’ah said the piece was “just the latest example of Israel’s attempt to demonize the American president.”
The article was written by an Israeli journalist and published by the Haavat-Meretz party.
“The Haavarim, as they are called in Israel, do not consider the US as a democratic state and they have no intention of changing their positions in order to support a US presidential candidate,” the party said.
