A report released on Monday by the Nigerian newspaper Niger Desyates said the N-word was most frequently used by its readers in the state of Togo.
The paper said the word was also used by people in other parts of Nigeria, like Kaduna and the northeastern state of Kaduna, but not in Togo itself.
The newspaper said its readers were “disappointed” at what it called a lack of news and education about the word, which is the source of much of the racism and violence in the region.
In 2017, the paper also released a report saying the term is being used by the police, and is “not being used only by the white population, but by the black population as well.”
The paper added that the word has been used by Nigerian police and vigilante groups in several places in the country.
Nigeria Desyatives released the report after a month-long campaign in which it interviewed 1,500 Nigerians in the three weeks following the release of its 2016 report.
