NEW YORK (AP) An Iowa restaurant owner is suing his workers over the two deaths of a manager and a cook after a two-week wait.
The owners of two Waffle Houses in Wichita, Kansas, filed the lawsuit Monday in federal court in Wichita against four people who worked at the eatery and the owners of the other three restaurants in the chain.
The lawsuit says the employees who died in February died of exposure to ammonia and other contaminants that were the result of an outbreak at the restaurants.
The lawsuit also says the owners violated their duties by failing to follow proper safety procedures.
The restaurant owners also are seeking punitive damages for the employees’ injuries and loss of wages.
In addition, the lawsuit says employees who were at the restaurant for less than 24 hours were not properly monitored for their safety.
